Velox Plus can be applied by a skilled and competent do-it-yourselfer, or a skilled and competent professional. The success of the product relies heavily on a proper application. Please make certain that you read, understand, and follow the application instructions.
Improper sanding before application is the biggest cause of product failure. It is very important that the surface of your propeller or running gear is sanded aggressively with 80 grit sandpaper before applying the primer. We highly recommend using a power sander for the preparation of the metal surface. PYI cannot warrant or guarantee the workmanship performed by any person or firm installing its products, so please be certain that whoever is applying Velox Plus has read and is following the instructions. You should be able to feel the abraded surface when you run your fingernail across the surface. Below are some examples of improperly and properly sanded finishes.
Yes. Velox Plus adheres to stainless steel well. It is important that you immediately and properly apply the Velox Primer after sanding your stainless steel propeller or running gear because stainless steel has the tendency accumulate chromium oxide if not immediately primed after sanding.
Yes. However, aluminum must be protected with an appropriate epoxy coating before the metal primer is applied. This is not necessary when aluminum is already protected with a factory finish (such as new stern drives). For epoxy factory finishes, sand the surface with an abrasive pad (like Scotch-Brite) or fine sandpaper (180-220 grit), removing all gloss or shine before applying Metal Primer.

Recoat times and the time before launch can be found on page 1. Dry times between coats can vary immensely depending on the weather and the surface temperature of the equipment being painted.
As with any paint, we can only give you an estimate on how much coverage you will get out of Velox Plus. Many variables come into play, like the style of brush used, the thickness of the coats, the weather, the elevation, etc. come into play. With that said, here are some coverage estimates:
Yes! After cleaning and lightly sanding the surface with fine sandpaper or abrasive pad (like Scotch Brite), you can apply Velox Plus up to two times over the previous season of Velox Plus. We suggest removing all the antifouling paint in any case at least every three years. Do not apply Metal Primer or Velox Plus on any other antifouling.

Due to California’s strict regulations, Velox Plus is not approved for application in California. To ensure that we are in compliance with California’s regulations, PYI will not ship Velox Plus to any address in the state of California.
Typical, a Zeus Drive or an IPS Drive will use about 0.5 liters of Velox Metal Primer and 1 liter of Velox Plus per drive.
